Unplated Wire for Jewellery Making

This collection brings together craft wires without a metal-plated finish. Choose by the underlying material, wire thickness and profile, rather than colour alone. Our current range includes anti-tarnish copper wire and unplated stainless steel wire.

Choose Your Material and Profile

  • Copper wire: anti-tarnish round wire in 0.8mm and 1mm, plus square wire in 0.8mm.
  • Stainless steel wire: silver-coloured round wire in 0.5mm and 0.6mm.

Check each product listing for its coil length, thickness and finish. Round wire provides a curved profile for loops and shaped details; square wire gives a different look for designs where the wire's profile is part of the finished piece.

What Does Unplated Mean?

Unplated means the wire is not finished with a layer of another metal, such as silver plating. It does not necessarily mean untreated or uncoated: the copper products in this collection are described as anti-tarnish. Check the individual listing before choosing wire for patination, soldering or other treatments.

Choosing Wire for Your Project

Consider the shape you want to create, any bead holes the wire must pass through and the material your tools can handle. Every Charming Beads bead listing includes the bead-hole size, so you can check clearance before ordering. Test a short piece of wire before starting your finished design.

For stainless steel wire, use cutters rated for that material and thickness. Protect the wire's surface from tool marks and finish cut ends carefully.

Unplated Craft Wire FAQs

Is unplated wire always bare copper?

No. This collection includes both copper and stainless steel. Our copper wire is listed as anti-tarnish, so unplated should not be taken to mean untreated.

Is silver-coloured stainless steel wire silver plated?

No. The stainless steel products here are silver-coloured and unplated.

Which thicknesses are available?

The current range includes 0.5mm and 0.6mm stainless steel round wire, 0.8mm copper round and square wire, and 1mm copper round wire. Availability is shown on each product.

Can I use this instead of flexible beading cable?

Craft wire for shaping is a different product from flexible multi-strand beading cable such as tiger tail. Choose according to your design and stringing method.
