Ethical Sourcing & Transparency

At Charming Beads, we believe that beautiful gemstones should be sourced responsibly and sold honestly.

For more than 16 years, we have built long-term relationships with trusted gemstone suppliers around the world. We work with a carefully selected network of suppliers, cutters and wholesalers, many of whom we have known and worked with for over a decade. We regularly review these relationships and have visited suppliers in person to better understand their operations, working practices and standards.

We believe transparency is more important than marketing claims. Rather than making promises we cannot verify, we share the information we do know about our gemstones.

Unlike many gemstone bead suppliers, every gemstone bead listing at Charming Beads includes both country-of-origin and grade information, helping customers make informed purchasing decisions.

Our Transparency Promise

  • ✓ Origin information on every gemstone listing
  • ✓ Grade information on every gemstone listing
  • ✓ Known treatments disclosed
  • ✓ Natural and manmade materials clearly separated
  • ✓ 16+ years of trusted supplier relationships
  • ✓ Additional provenance information supplied whenever available

Our Approach

The global gemstone supply chain is complex. Unlike some industries, complete mine-to-market traceability is not always possible for every stone. Rather than making claims we cannot verify, we believe in being open about what we do know and sharing that information with our customers.

We require our suppliers to uphold standards relating to:

  • Fair and lawful employment practices
  • Safe working conditions
  • No child labour
  • No forced labour
  • Honest disclosure of gemstone treatments
  • Accurate information regarding gemstone origins

Where concerns arise, we reserve the right to end supplier relationships. Over the years we have chosen to stop working with suppliers whose standards did not meet our expectations.

Gemstone Origin & Transparency

Every gemstone bead listing on our website includes both country-of-origin and grade information.

We are committed to providing as much information as possible about every gemstone we sell.

Every gemstone bead listing on our website includes the gemstone's country of origin and grade information where known. We believe customers should have access to this information so they can make informed purchasing decisions.

If customers require additional provenance information for a particular gemstone, we will always do our best to obtain further supporting information from our suppliers wherever available.

Natural Gemstones & Honest Product Descriptions

We believe product descriptions should be clear and accurate.

The vast majority of the gemstones we sell are natural and untreated. Where a gemstone has undergone a treatment such as dyeing, heating, stabilisation or any other enhancement known to us, this is clearly stated on the product listing.

We do not market manmade materials as natural gemstones. Products such as Opalite, Goldstone and other manufactured materials are clearly identified as manmade and are listed separately from our natural gemstone ranges.

Authenticity

Gemstone identification is built on experience, expertise and trusted supplier relationships developed over many years.

Our supplier network has been established and refined over more than 16 years in business. We work only with suppliers we know and trust, and every supplier relationship has been developed through long-term experience and ongoing scrutiny.

Environmental Responsibility

We continually look for ways to reduce our environmental impact.

Our packaging is made from recycled materials wherever possible and can be recycled again after use. We have also reduced paper consumption by eliminating printed invoices and packing slips, making these documents available electronically instead.

While some operational packaging remains necessary to protect products during storage and transit, we actively review our packaging choices and seek more sustainable alternatives whenever practical.

Continuous Improvement

Ethical sourcing is not a destination; it is an ongoing process.

We recognise that traceability within the gemstone industry continues to evolve, and we are committed to improving the information available to our customers wherever possible. As standards improve and new verification methods become available, we will continue to strengthen our sourcing practices and transparency.

Our commitment is simple:

To sell genuine gemstones honestly, source responsibly through trusted long-term relationships, and provide customers with the clearest and most accurate information we can.

Why We Publish Gemstone Origins

Every gemstone has a story, and we believe customers should know where their gemstones come from whenever that information is available. That is why every gemstone bead listing at Charming Beads includes country-of-origin information and grade details.
